There are many kinds of grass available in market and there are many companies established in Australia who supply different kinds of grass. There are some native and some foreigner kinds available, some of them are easy to plant and grow and some require more maintenance, care and patience to establish them. In temperate regions of Australia, warm season grasses are normally used. These grasses grow very slow in winter and very fast in summer and spring. It is very easy to have a beautiful lush green lawn using just native grasses and plants. Following is the brief detail about top 5 grasses available for Australia.

Couch Grass: This type of grass is quite dearth tolerant and resilient. It is best for lawns that handle a lot of wear and tear and foot traffic. As this Couch grass is very hardy, it requires very low maintenance. This grass grows harder and tough if developed in full sun. Hybrid Couch grasses with partial shade tolerance are also available in market.

Weeping Grass: This type of grass is most low maintenance and versatile grass of all native grasses available in Australia. Weeping grass can create soft and lush lawns with almost equivalent visual appearance as some more customary lawn grasses. This grass is not suitable for high foot traffic lawns as it is medium wearing and partially shade tolerant grass. To create a thick lush green lawn, it should be planted quite thickly. Weeping grass turf is also available at native turf suppliers.

Zoysia Japonica: This grass has more drought tolerance and better shade tolerance than most grasses available in Australia. Once established, this grass can make very lush and attractive lawns. Zoysia Japonica is best for partial shades and low foot traffic lawns. Medium level maintenance is required for this grass. Zoysia Japonica can be little more expensive to establish than other types of grasses. This grass is warm season grass, if the temperature falls under 10 Celsius than the color of this grass turns brown.

Soft-leaf Buffalo Grass: It is an excellent choice for Australian lawns as soft-leafed kinds of buffalo grasses uphold a great lush color all the year. These grasses are high wear tolerance and have good dearth tolerance. These are low maintenance grasses and create beautiful soft lawns.

Tall Fescue: This extremely versatile grass is for cool climates. This type of grass makes very attractive thick lawns and can tolerate a broad range of soils. This grass is a medium maintenance and requires more mowing than other grasses. This grass type is best for reasonably drought tolerance and medium foot traffic areas. Main benefit of Tall Fescue grass is that it is non persistent, it does not generates runners that is why it will not be a pest.
