Australian Pool Regulations

Swimming pool is a great way to enjoy and have pleasure especially in summer. In case of having a swimming pool in your own home also adds value to your property. If you want to have a swimming pool in your own home, you have to follow some rules and regulation required by state law while living in Australia. So, if you want to build a pool you should hire a good pool builder or incase you want to build your pool on your own, you should know and have a good understanding of the rules and regulations. These rules are put together to ensure the safety of the citizens. Most important rule that should be followed when you want to build a pool is to build a fence and build it according to the law.

All in-ground swimming pools must be surrounded by a fence. Australian law requires that the fence should be built by a professional fence builder and the fence should be 4 feet high at the minimum. There should not be a space left more than 2 inches between the floor and the lower end of the fence and the space between the vertical posts of the fence should not go beyond 1.75 inches. These are the main things that should be considered before building a fence around a swimming pool.

This rule was set by Australian Govt. after some incidents in which children fell in pool. To prevent these type of incidents Australian Law requires a fence around the pool and make it sure that the kids don’t get access to pool without supervision.

It is not specified in the law, what type of style and material should be used to build a fence around the swimming pool. Standard picket fence can be said as recommendable. But as a pool builder there are several rules and regulation that should be taken into the account. For example in case of chain link, the mesh should not go beyond 2.25 inches. Incase the fence is made by bricks or stones; there should not be any protrusions or indentions that help someone to climb over the fence. It is also an important thing to consider that the opening should be little enough to keep out a 4 inch area from entering the swimming pool.

The Australian Law also said that the pool fence must have an entry gate that process as a self-closing or self-latching protocol. It also required that the gate should open either towards the pool or away from the pool. The pool entry gate should be secured after the usage of the pool. A child proof lock or a combination of lock can be considered for this purpose.

Temporary barriers must be installed during the process of construction. These temporary barriers must have a height of 4 feet. This is the precaution to ban the non-constructor in the construction site. These rules and regulations are important as they safeguard your dear ones by ensuring that any harm doesn’t come across.
